Involvement Opportunities
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?
Can such faith save him?
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him,
“Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,”
but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
In the same way, faith by itself,
if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
-James 2:14-17
What’s In it For Me?
“What can this church do for me?” That’s the question many are asking as they search the yellow pages for that perfect church fit for their family. On one level this is not such an unreasonable question. It is very important to know the answer to questions like, “what will my child learn in these classrooms,” or “will my children be safe?” or “do the people here seem to live out their faith?” However, on another level this is a terrible question because many never grow beyond it. Here is a better question, “will I and my family be able to serve at this congregation?” The church is not a business where the customer is always right. The church is a Family, a body, and a Kingdom. Everyone must find their place. Everyone must find their ministry.
After all, a chain is only as strong as its weakest length.
Being Involved is Not About…
It is not about finding a job in the church.
It is not about filling empty ministry slots.
It is not about plugging people into a rigidly organized ministry structure.
It is not about being busy for the sake of busyness.
What Involvement Is…
“Involvement is about equipping people to serve where God is calling them to serve in His Kingdom,
for His glory, and for building up the body of Christ
and carrying out the ministry of Christ.”
One of our goals at 29th and Yale is to help individuals mature spiritually through the use of their God given gifts, abilities, talents, and passions. Why? So that each person has a part in helping this congregation become spiritually mature. What are you doing? What ministry do you call your own?
What are your passions?
What are your interests?
How can you strengthen this congregation?
There are so many needs. We would love to have your help. Our Deacon over discipleship and involvement is Joel Osborn. Joel, our ministers, or our elders would love to help you find your place in the body of Christ.
